National Church Residences Awarded Over $20M in HUD Affordable Senior Housing Grants

Columbus, Ohio—National Church Residences (NCR) announced today that it has been awarded four (4) grants totaling $20,335,900 for the construction of four affordable senior housing communities in Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. The grants will allow NCR to construct and/or manage a total of 182 apartment units.
 
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has granted funding to NCR through the HUD 202 (affordable senior housing) program to construct the following communities for seniors 62 and over:
 
Atlanta, GA— ($3,906,300)
The proposed project will consist of 35 one-bedroom apartment units, and one two-bedroom manager’s unit. The building will include community space, laundry facilities, and a kitchen. HUD estimates a three-year rental subsidy of $343,200.
 
Bedford, OH— ($5,138,600)
The proposed project will consist of 39 one-bedroom apartment units, and one two-bedroom manager’s unit. The building will include community space, laundry facilities, television/lounge/reading room, and a community kitchen. HUD estimates a three-year rental subsidy of $496,800.
 
Penn Hills, PA— ($5,117,600)
The proposed project will consist of 39 one-bedroom apartment units, and one two-bedroom manager’s unit. Amenities will include community space, laundry facilities, and a kitchen. HUD estimates a three-year rental subsidy of $438,300.
 
Lubbock, TX—($6,173,400)
The proposed project will consist of 65 one-bedroom apartment units, and one two-bedroom manager’s unit.  Building amenities will include community space, laundry facilities, activity room, outdoor patio, and a small serving kitchen. The project is Co-sponsored by North and East Lubbock Community Development.  HUD estimates a three-year rental subsidy of $651,900.
 
According to NCR President & CEO Thomas W. Slemmer, “HUD funding will enable NCR to provide low-income seniors with quality, affordable housing and supportive services, and to expand NCR’s mission in locations that we have successfully served for years.” Slemmer is a long-time advocate for the preservation and enhancement of the HUD 202 program.
